DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position is responsible for assisting with the support of the City’s computer network. The work includes ensuring that all network systems are functioning as intended, as well as providing technical assistance and minor equipment repairs for users on the network. An incumbent in this position is also responsible for installing, updating, and maintaining all network hardware and software. Direct supervision is received from administrative personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Configures all hardware, systems, and software for networks in various locations around the City;
Establishes user accounts, email accounts, and network related permissions;
Installs new antivirus software and ensures that it remains updated;
Sets up and configures mobile devices for new users that are added to the system;
Assists in the support and maintenance of network servers, equipment, devices, and systems such as Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP);
Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning;
Assists in supporting virtualization at multiple levels across the network;
Assists in the performance of system-wide backups;
Identifies, documents, and performs minor troubleshooting or repairs on equipment, hardware, and software;
Assists with the management of network administrative tasks such as auditing, security, account setup, and troubleshooting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER
A. Possession of a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree which includes at least (15) credit hours in computer science courses; or
B. Possession of a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate’s Degree which includes at least (15) credit hours in computer science courses and two (2) years of experience in the maintenance of computer networks; or
C. Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and four (4) years of experience as described (B); or
D) An equivalent combination of education/training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) through (C).

Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a Class D Driver’s License valid in the State of New York.
