Mayor Spano hands out treats at the new new Yonkers Animal Shelter

Yonkers residents love their pets. The City of Yonkers aims to promote and protect the health, safety and well-being of all animals and pets through various services provided by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation and the Yonkers Animal Shelter.

In September 2013, Mayor Mike Spano officially opened the new Yonkers Animal Shelter at 1000 Ridge Hill Boulevard. The new shelter replaced the City’s 50-year-old facility with an 11,000 square foot state-of-the-art building that places an emphasis on cleanliness, animal welfare and adoption.

The new Animal Shelter is not only larger than the old shelter but features a welcoming public reception space, modern indoor and outdoor kennels, separate intake and adoption areas, modern medical facilities and meet-and-greet spaces where visitors can enjoy quality one-on-one time with their prospective new pets.
