Protecting your health, safety & welfare

The Yonkers Department of Housing and Buildings (DHB) is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Yonkers residents, business and property owners in the area of housing and building code enforcement. We issue building permits and certificates of occupancy, conduct inspections and investigate complaints regarding housing and building construction.

Permit Applications Accepted: 9:00am -3:00 pm.

All building permit application submissions must contain the following: Letter of Transmittal, two sets of plans, application together with all required insurance documentation. Please note all physical documents that are submitted must be placed on a USB Drive and provided with the application. Please click onto the links for further information

Permit Reminder

Before obtaining a permit to renovate an existing dwelling of 1 to 3 families, the City of Yonkers requires a Home Improvement Contractor's License which can be obtained from the Consumer Protection Bureau.(click here)

Newly Adopted Provisions of the Uniform Code and Energy Code

Beginning on May 12, 2020, regulated parties submitting building permit applications must comply with the newly adopted provisions of the Uniform Code and Energy Code.

The following specific printings of the 2020 Codes of New York State were recently adopted by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council as part of a major update to the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (Uniform Code) and the State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code):
