Aging In-Place in Yonkers
Throughout life we are guided by common principles: to stay active, happy, and healthy. An additional goal is that we want to do this within our own home. We want to age in place.
The Livable Community Connection at The Yonkers Office for the Aging has the necessary tools to help you to age in-place. One phone call can guide you towards resources available to assist you in growing older in Yonkers. Call today to find out how we can help you.
Making the Connection
The Yonkers Office for the Aging has been designated the Livable Community Connection (LCC) in the South West region of Westchester. Funded by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, the LCC will work to connect residents of Yonkers with government officials, public and private agencies and community resources to help them age in place.
Livable Community
Aging in-place can be facilitated by forming a livable community. A livable community combines multiple components to form an environment which is favorable to aging. These components include housing options, well designed roads, transportation options, adequate home design, safety and security, parks and recreation, the arts and well run community centers.
Empowering Yonkers
The LCC will provide support to individuals and groups to empower them to act as their own advocates and ignite change in their community. The Livable Community Council will also assemble task forces to address issues of public concern.
Programs & Education
The LCC can connect community groups with the education and advocacy training needed to create a livable community. Topics for community education include estate planning, volunteer opportunities, home accessibility, consumer protection, formal and informal services and a variety of health and wellness programs. Contact the Livable Communities Connection if your group is interested in participating in the Livable Community initiative or if you are a speaker, trainer, exercise or art instructor and wish to be listed in a training directory compiled by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
