Not only has Yonkers Parks been a Tree City participant for 36 years, but is doing its part for Climate Action in making Yonkers a Greener City with these Climate Action Initiatives:

For every tree planted on the East and NW side of Yonkers, two trees are being installed in the Southwest quadrant of Yonkers.

In 2022, out of 124 requests for tree plants, 28% of trees were planted in parks.

More trees being installed in public parks.

Stepped up efforts throughout Yonkers at preserving and maintaining existing tree stock.

New Park designs now include more grass areas, and play areas with rubber matting– less concrete.

Installed shade structures at Cerrato Park.

New Sensory Garden at Grant Park.

Increased perennial plantings in our parks and on our arterials – including ten monarch butterfly gardens; six of which are in Southwest Yonkers. New park designs include additional perennials and grasses.

Rain Garden installed at Boo Wilson Park.

In the Fall of 2022, planted over 4,700 perennials in the three Daylighting parks.

In November 2023, 83 trees were planted throughout the City.
