Not only has Yonkers Parks been a Tree City participant for 36 years, but is doing its part for Climate Action in making Yonkers a Greener City with these Climate Action Initiatives:

  • For every tree planted on the East and NW side of Yonkers, two trees are being installed in the Southwest quadrant of Yonkers.

  • In 2022, out of 124 requests for tree plants, 28% of trees were planted in parks.

  • More trees being installed in public parks.

  • Stepped up efforts throughout Yonkers at preserving and maintaining existing tree stock.

  • New Park designs now include more grass areas, and play areas with rubber matting– less concrete.

  • Installed shade structures at Cerrato Park.

  • New Sensory Garden at Grant Park.

  • Increased perennial plantings in our parks and on our arterials – including ten monarch butterfly gardens; six of which are in Southwest Yonkers. New park designs include additional perennials and grasses.

  • Rain Garden installed at Boo Wilson Park.

  • In the Fall of 2022, planted over 4,700 perennials in the three Daylighting parks.

  • In November 2023, 83 trees were planted throughout the City.
