Executive Officer - Lieutenant Sean Looney

The Courts Unit provides the assistance needed to expedite the prosecution and resolution of criminal, traffic, and civil cases brought by or on behalf of department members. Our main goal is to maintain an effective working relationship between the police department and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the courts to ensure the orderly prosecution of cases. It also serves the victims of domestic violence by providing professional services to them and encouraging them to hold offenders accountable for their actions.

The Courts Unit acts as a liaison between the police department and the Yonkers City Court System, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Court Officers. It notifies members when they are needed to appear in the Yonkers Criminal, Traffic, or Civil Courts, and supervises these appearances.
The Criminal Case Review Office researches cases, obtains criminal histories, and DMV information for the Courts and the District Attorney’s Office, and secures the release of vehicles and property from department custody as required. The Traffic Case Review Officer schedules officers for traffic case hearings and trials.

The Courts Unit also encompasses the Property & Evidence Unit and the Records Section.
